Behind the studio doors: two weeks at Colour Cubed
FEBRUARY, 2025
At Colour Cubed Creative Communications, we’re always excited to welcome fresh talent into our studio, and over the past two weeks, we had the pleasure of working with Malaika, a second-year Graphic Design student from Birmingham City University.
Supporting creative talent is something we’re passionate about. Students always bring fresh perspectives and creative energy into our studio while they gain valuable insights into the commercial world. Bridging the gap between education and industry, work placements provide the perfect opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.
Malaika quickly became an integral part of our team. She worked on a diverse range of projects, gaining insight into different commercial sectors and creative challenges.
Malaika’s experience
I am very grateful to the team at Colour Cubed for giving me the opportunity to join the studio for a two-week placement as a Graphic Design Intern. During this time, I was tasked with working on a large range of interesting projects, from exciting Christmas brochures, to logo design and animated social media content. These projects developed my understanding of designing for different sectors, including hospitality, real estate, and education, which I look forward to putting into practice in the future.
The communication within the team was clear and the consistent feedback allowed me to improve on my skills and ensure that I was successfully meeting the requirements of each project. The team is extremely nice and displayed a positive work environment which was welcoming and encouraged me to express my creativity when contributing to the projects I was involved in.
I learnt a significant amount from everyone that I worked with, particularly how fun and fulfilling it is to build strong connections with clients and successfully create their visions; something I saw first-hand when I was fortunate enough to attend the aparthotel Birmingham 1st birthday celebrations. I feel that this opportunity has taught me key principles and processes to working in a creative agency, which I look forward to applying throughout my development as a Graphic Designer.
Thank you to the Colour Cubed team for your mentorship and this invaluable experience.
